Schwartz is a licensed mental health counselor in NYS, and has a private practice as a

psychotherapist in Ithaca, NY. He is a the author of several books, including his latest, which

is the focus of our interview:

 “The Sidewalk Psychotherapist: Caring and Compassion in a Chemical Age”

Prior to his work as a psychotherapist he was active in the developmental disabilities

deinstitutionalization and community movement, which included serving as director

of the PA State Developmental Disabilities Council.
