Gurche is artist-in-residence at The Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY. His works have appeared in National Geographic
and Discover magazines as well as major natural history museums, including the Smithsonian, The American
Museum of Natural History and The Field Museum. He started his career doing dinosaur paintings and was a
consultant for the film Jurassic Park.
Last fall Gurche published an amazing new art book called “Shaping Humanity: How Science, Art and Imagination
Help Us Understand Our Origins.” This book is an account of the 15 sculptures he created for the Smithsonian’s
HALL OF HUMAN ORIGINS, which opened in 2010.
