Docent for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Orkin have been an active docent with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Outreach program since 2007, and in 2008 became the coordinator of this program. She is responsible for scheduling docents to lead weekend bird walks at Sapsucker Woods. As an active member of the Cayuga bird club Orkin has been the co-coordinator of the Christmas Bird Count for the past 5 years and was was president of the club from 2011-2013. She currently serves as Vice President.. During her tenure, the club started a conservation committee, has been responsible for the design and financial contribution for interpretive signage to be installed at Stewart Park in early June, purchased binoculars to loan out, and as a group, has stepped forward to host the 2014 New York State Ornithological Association’s annual meeting to be held in Ithaca in September.
